About us

Our Story
We are a group of some 30 people. Each one of us is caring for a loved one who has a Mental Health condition and have lived the experience. The group has been in existence since 1992 and can claim some success in working in partnership with a range of organisations to improve carer support activities and Mental Health service provider delivery.

Our purpose
We meet to provide; information, a social outlet, mutual support to de-stress, a discussion point for updates on current issues and difficulties and an overall reassurance that we do not have to cope alone.

Our Approach
We are a Dacorum and District based carers group who meet in the evening from 7:45 pm to 10:00 pm in the Mind Building, 139 Leighton Buzzard Road Hemel Hempstead.

We meet on the first Thursday in the Month except in August. Additionally, we include a summer outing, a Christmas dinner and a few extraordinary meetings throughout the year as necessary.

Typically we receive regular updates from a range of invited speakers including; advocates, psychiatrists, doctors, police, local politicians, social workers, Service managers and staff.

We also provide social and mutual support by listening and sharing experiences. We work actively to get our message across and provide essential feedback to the commissioners of Mental Health services and the HPFT who are the main providers.
